5 Simple Ways To Turn A Small Business Into Big Success
By Jeffrey Dorrian Published: 03/08/2009
Opening a small business is the first step for a serious entrepreneur, but it takes a lot of work to make the venture a successful one. Many individuals assume that all it takes is a large purse to run a successful business, but that is not necessarily true. It also takes a lot of planning, attention to detail, customer service and promotion. These things do not have to cost a fortune and, with a few simple steps, every small business owner can increase their chances of success.
A small business must be big on customer service. The most important aspect of a small business is the customer-friendly service and attention to detail that larger businesses often overlook. The small business owner has to try harder to get the customer and remain competitive in order to keep them. Friendly communication, prompt dispute resolution and customer appreciation are the best ways to ensure successful customer service.
Competitive pricing is a must. Whether you offer a product or a service, the prices must be competitive with other businesses. There is always someone waiting to sell lower than you, so it’s best to avoid engaging in a price battle. When you have decided on a reasonable price, stick with it. A stable pricing structure will cause less confusion and will allow you more time to concentrate on other business aspects, including promotion.
Free publicity is golden. One of the largest expenses that many businesses incur is that of advertising. These days, many small business owners are looking toward the various free promotional opportunities available rather than spending big bucks on a marketing campaign. Press release submission to newspapers, magazines and internet press release websites is a terrific way to gain additional exposure for any small business. In addition, article marketing, top search engine placement and link exchanges are among the best ways to garner free attention on the internet.
Everyone likes freebies. Whether it’s a pocket calendar, an ink pen or a trinket, customers will enjoy their experience with any business that takes the time to show their appreciation. Anyone can go out to a store and buy something, but how often can they get a free gift with their purchase? Publicity events aside, most people get what they pay for and nothing more. By providing freebies, customers will remember you and are more likely to return or even refer a friend.
Quality matters. No matter what you sell, your small business will not find success without a quality product or service. Your customers must want to come back in order for your business to remain profitable. Word of mouth is often the best form of publicity and quality products will garner much more attention than a business who overlooks attention to detail. Even if you have to do it yourself, make sure that every single product is inspected before being sold. If you provide a service, take the time to double check your work before concluding that the job is done.
