The most important thing in life is finding happiness and promoting happiness to everyone you come into contact with. There are dozens of happiness quotes. One so often hears the phrase that "you cannot buy happiness"; it's true; you cannot buy happiness. But how do you go about the task of finding happiness?
True happiness comes from within. You will find happiness from within yourself, through awareness and understanding of your own thoughts and beliefs. There have been many books written about the subject of how to find happiness, and they all point in the same direction. To find happiness you have to stop what you have been doing and learn to think in a different way. This is the secret of happiness; you have to stop looking outside yourself, because in doing so you give your control away.
If your happiness were dependent upon someone else's actions or upon certain external circumstances then your happiness will only ever be like a puppet on a string. I'm not saying that love happiness does not exist. Happiness derived from being in love is very real and richly rewarding, but it cannot really happen without happiness being felt within yourself as well. You have to be happy within yourself to be able to be happy in love.
Sometimes it can be difficult to examine one's own thoughts and emotions. Often you think one thing and yet feel something which is diametrically opposed. Sometimes you know what you are thinking and how you are acting, but no matter how hard you try to change you find yourself repeating the same old familiar patterns. The thing which most often constitutes a barrier to change is simply not knowing how to change. It's as if you are standing on one side of a river and you know that if only you were on the opposite bank you would be happy, but you cannot swim, the water is deep and flowing swiftly and there doesn't seem to be a bridge in sight.
To some this scene feels like an insurmountable problem. Their immediate reaction is to say to themselves "I just can't get there; the river is in my way; I'll never be able to be happy now". But those who are persistent will find a way in their pursuit of happiness. There are in fact many options available to you; you could learn to swim, find a boat, build a boat, walk upstream or downstream and find a place to cross; the more you focus upon possible solutions, the more ideas miraculously appear to you! You might even decide that you are happy on your side of the river after all.

True happiness comes from within. Happiness hinges upon your attitude, and your attitude is based upon inner beliefs and learned patterns of thought, expectation and behavior.
